Closing Statements – Electronic Sound (review)

John Erik Kaada is an enigmatic Norwegian modern classical composer known for his work on the Ipecac Imprint, the niche label co-owned and run by Faith No More frontman Mike Patton.

Kaada’s latest album deals with the hoary topic of final farewells. This inevitably gives pieces like “Home in the dark” a moulin grandeur, with synth bass notes and shimmering pads taken up by resonant strings and noisy interventions.

“Closing Statements” is therefore a record of rarefied beauty, but is is depressing as fuck.
